Traditionally, mortgage lenders have been keen to attract first-time buyers through offering discounted interest rates to encourage people to get themselves on the housing ladder. However, in the this competitive market place, people with existing mortgages have also demanded special concessions, making the incentives for first-time borrowers less relevant.
