On 11 January 2010 Abbey National plc, which included the Bradford Bingley savings business, changed its name to Santander UK plc.
Abbey National Building Society was founded in 1944. In 1989, Abbey became a PLC and floated on the London stock exchange.
In 2003, the company shortened its name to Abbey and became part of the Grupo Santander (Spain's largest financial group) in November 2004.
Now known as Santander, its main offices are in London and it employs more than 25,000 people in branches throughout the country. Santander offers a range of mortgages whether you're a first time buyer or you're looking to re-mortgage an existing property.
