Despite continuing worries over the state of the economy, new statistics have suggested that there are signs of recovery in the UK mortgage market .
In the first half of 2010, unbiased.co.uk, the professional advice website, witnessed a 24 per cent rise on consumers looking for advice from a whole of market mortgage broker, compared to the same period in the previous year.
Indeed, the website received in excess of 45,000 enquiries for mortgage advice in H1 2010, with first-time buyer advice coming top of the enquiries received.
Karen Barrett, chief executive at unbiased.co.uk, commented: "Our latest statistics are a very clear sign that it is not just the market that is on the way to recovery but that consumers are back, actively seeking to explore their mortgage options."
The Council of Mortgage Lenders revealed recently that gross mortgage lending in June was an estimated £13.1 billion, a 15 per cent rise from £11.4 billion in May.
