New figures have revealed that six out of ten mortgages taken in June 2010 were for purchases.
According to the latest John Charcol mortgage index, purchase activity continued to maintain dominance over remortgaging, as it has done for the last 12 months.
Indeed, the only time when remortgaging has accounted for more business during the last year was in February, although this may be the result of the poor weather "keeping purchasers tucked up indoors than remortgaging proving popular".
Drew Wotherspoon, director of marketing at John Charcol, commented: "For those borrowers who are in a position to remortgage it would seem that they are waiting for some movement in bank rate, or at least some more definitive information as to when it will move.
"Whilst this strategy is understandable increasing numbers of borrowers could be considerably better off if they moved their home loan now."
Meanwhile, Paragon Mortgages PRS Trends Report revealed recently that nearly three times as many landlords reported that tenant demand was rising rather than falling during the second quarter of the year.
