According to one mortgage expert, mortgage lending will start slow this year but quickly pick up. The first few months of 2010 will see lower mortgage loan levels, but buyers will begin to return to the market as the year goes on. The spokesman for the Council of Mortgage Lenders made the prediction.
Bernard Clarke was reported as saying: We are still in a market in which it is not as competitive as it was and those circumstances will only improve very slowly." The gradual return to mortgage market stability could take longer than had been previously predicted.
Mortgage brokers are optimistic, however, with over half expecting to see an increase in business during the first three months of this year. Paragon Mortgages conducted the research, which reflects the positivity amongst UK brokers .
