The need for mortgage advice is likely to increase in coming months, one expert claims.
David Elms, chief executive of IFA Promotions, believes current volatility in the mortgage market means that people are keener than ever to talk to an expert before committing to a deal.
He said: "If we are to learn anything from what happens on the investment side, it would seem reasonable to assume that mortgage advice is going to be valued more in current conditions."
Mr Elms added that mortgage hunters are currently the third most likely group to seek help, behind those looking to take out a pension or other investment.
People who are searching for a mortgage might find that obtaining advice is one way to get access to a good deal in a contracting market.
Figures released by price comparison website Moneyfacts.co.uk reveal that the number of mortgage products available in the UK has fallen by around half so far this year.
