Mortgage hunters urged to speak directly to banks
Tue, 27 May 2008
People looking for a new mortgage deal should contact lenders direct, one expert has advised.

Writing for the Guardian, Rupert Jones explains that mortgage lenders are increasingly offering their best deals to customers who do not go through a broker .

He explained that while brokers do have to advise customers that there might be better mortgages available, they do not need to name specific banks or products, leaving customers to do the leg work.

"So if you want to be sure of getting the very best mortgage, you need to take the time to check out the different offers from banks and building societies, as well as talking to a broker," he said.

HSBC offers some of the best mortgage Madeals on the market and has never made its products available through brokers, Mr Jones added.

Last week, Moneyextra.com advised people to shop around for mortgages as they could save up to £2,000 by switching to a better deal.
