According to recent research by Abbey Mortgages, students in the UK are struggling with the life decision of whether to choose a gap year or stay home and save for a mortgage .
When they were asked, one out of every ten UK graduates who took a gap year said they would revise their decision in light of the housing market today. Young people, some thought, need to think about mortgages at an earlier date.
Research indicated that as many as 42 per cent of students were already saving to buy their first house . The head of mortgages at Abbey, Nici Audlham-Gardiner, was reportedly quoted in the financial news as saying that students: "now need to weigh up the benefits of travelling against jumping straight into a career and being able to afford to get onto the property ladder ."
