Mortgage hunters pessimistic about dream home
Mon, 29 Oct 2007
Many people believe that they will never be able to afford the mortgage for the home of their dreams, a new study has suggested.

According to data provided by financial services provider Legal and General, 20 per cent of UK residents anticipate they will never move into the homes of their dreams.

However, a similar figure of 19 per cent actually think they will be paying the mortgage on their ideal home before they reach the middle of their 40s, suggesting that it is not all doom and gloom among borrowers.

The statistics come from Legal and General's Home Sweet Home survey, which is conducted each year.

"Garry Skelton, the marketing director for Legal and General's general insurance business, commented: "Last year's survey found that Surrey topped the list as the favourite county in the UK for our dream home."

While Surrey may be a dream destination for mortgage customers, a recent HiFX study found that further-flung destinations may be more trouble. According to the currency firm, South Africa is the world's most stressful place when moving from another country.
