Halifax: Countryside properties please mortgage borrowers
Tue, 28 Aug 2007
Property hunters are looking for a detached property located in the English countryside, a new study by Halifax mortgages has revealed.

According to the results of the poll, half the people questioned prefer a detached house and most (22 per cent) would like to live in a new-build home. A third of respondents (30 per cent) claimed the idyllic countryside to be the most attractive place to settle down.

Head of mortgages at Halifax Phil Jenks comments: "Although many of us live in towns or cities, there is no disputing that a house in the country is what the majority of us aspire to."

The preference for new-build properties shows a desire for space and privacy, he adds.

Desirable features in a potential home for mortgage borrowers are central heating, double glazing, a fitted kitchen, a modern bathroom and off-street parking . Particular features in a detached property that house hunters look for are a conservatory and environmentally friendly qualities.

Halifax is financial services company that also deals in loans, credit cards, bank accounts, insurance, shares and investments.
