Nationwide best mortgage lender, expert finds
Mon, 16 Oct 2006
Nationwide Building Society has been named as the most popular mortgage lender in the UK .

The mortgage provider scooped the AWD Moneyextra accolade for the tenth consecutive time this year.

Nationwide was also regarded as the best mortgage lender throughout the whole of 2005 in the poll.

However, for the first time since May 2005, Nationwide has been joined by three other building societies in the top ten mortgage providers .

Coventry Building Society, Chelsea Building Society and Stroud and Swindon Building Society were also named among the top places to find a mortgage.

Rising interest rates and more the rising average size of mortgages could mean that building societies are increasingly able to offer the best deals, claimed Moneyextra.

Robin Amlot, senior editor at Moneyextra, commented: "It's early days yet but it’s possible that, against the backdrop of rising base rates, building societies may once again be able to play their strengths – focussing on delivering quality deals to members without having to worry about generating returns for shareholders."

Nationwide offers a wide range of mortgages, including packages for first-time buyers and borrowers looking to find a remortgage .
