Buy-to-let investors need to provide quality housing, says expert
Wed, 03 May 2006
People thinking of investing in buy-to-let property need to ensure they provide a decent standard of accommodation for tenants, urges a property expert.

Malcolm Harrison, spokesperson for the Association of Residential Lettings Agents said that in a competitive but healthy market people need to consider seriously whether they want to invest in a buy-to-let mortgage .

With current high levels of renting, tenants have a vast range of properties to choose from, so inadequate furniture and low standard interiors will fail to attract anyone, he said.

"Awful carpets and sofas are a thing of the past," he advised. "Why rent something that is badly set out when you get better next door at the same price."

However he concluded that overall the buy-to-let market was looking strong and set to remain so for the near future, possibly making it a good option of serious property investors .
