Offset Mortgages on the up
Mon, 09 Jan 2006
Intelligent Finance, the pioneering financial services company who introduced the offset mortgage, were recently voted as the second most popular lender by moneyextra.com. Their flagship product, the offset mortgage, appears to going from strength to strength.

Intelligent Finance themselves have championed the money-saving ability of the offset mortgage since they launched the product. In 2005, their research revealed that 1 in 4 UK mortgage seeking households might save money with an offset mortgage . For 2006, they have reworked these figures to reflect the market; and come up with 1 in every 3. The fresh research indicates that 1 in 3 UK households could potentially save around £312 every year by taking out an offset mortgage loan, and moving their financial dealings to the bank .

Offset mortgages work by including one’s personal savings as equity in a loan, from current account through to ISA’s. This equity then serves to bring down the cost of the loan .

The offset mortgage market is certainly growing, according to Nick Robinson, the MD of Intelligent Finance. He highlights predictions by the research firm Datamonitor, who forecast that the offset and current account mortgage market will constitute 30% of total UK secured lending, by the year 2009. The future looks bright for Intelligent Finance.
