One of the country's largest mortgage lenders has reported that mortgage applications more than doubled last month.
September was a record month for Leeds Building Society, with the highest number of mortgage applications received since May 2002.
The £252 million worth of mortgage applications received were twice as much as September last year.
The mortgage lender's head of marketing and PR, Karen Wint, said she was "delighted" with the number of mortgage applications received. She added that is demonstrates that Leeds is offering competitively priced mortgages to customers.
"We are firmly committed to offering our customers a choice of channels through which they can apply for a mortgage .
"The number of applications received was evenly split across these and, therefore, we are also supporting both direct and intermediaries with a fast and efficient service to compliment our excellent product range."
Ms Wint pointed out that the mortgage lender recently launched a "highly competitive" two-year fixed rate mortgage with a mortgage rate of 4.75 per cent.
The mortgage comes without any lock-ins and mortgage holders can repay the mortgage at any time without incurring penalties.
"This combination of a fixed rate combined with the flexibility of unlimited capital repayments further underlines our commitment to both direct and introduced customers."
