Average Mortgage Value Highlights

The average mortgage value was compiled by calculating the average values by postcode for all applications for a mortgage quote through Mortgages.co.uk during 2006 and 2007.

  • The average mortgage for a property bought by users of Mortgages.co.uk was £126,643 in 2006, going up to £138,313 in 2007, an increase of 9.21%.
  • Berkshire and Bournemouth saw well above average increases in average mortgage values of 23% and 14% respectively over 2006 – 2007.
  • Birmingham witnessed a slightly below average increase in the average mortgage loan, which was at 8.2%, with the rest of the West Midlands experiencing a greater than average increase of 17%.
  • Southampton saw a well above average increase in average mortgage value of 29%.
  • Greater London saw only a 1% increase in average mortgage value, up from £213,916 in 2006 to £215,784 in 2007.
  • Glasgow and Edinburgh saw somewhat above average increases in average mortgage loan values, 19% and 15% respectively.
  • West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire saw well above average increases in average mortgage values, 22% and 21% respectively, with South Yorkshire witnessing a slightly below average increase of 9%
